Shields of Hope would like to support several families struggling from cancer that could use some Holiday Cheer! Selected families will receive needed gifts delivered by the members of Shields of Hope.

What is Heroes Holiday?

Heroes Holiday started in 2014 as a way to support local families struggling around the holidays with much-needed supplies, household goods, and gifts. Each year at least 5 families are selected through a 3rd party nomination process.

2016 Heroes Holiday Recipients

Hudsonville 4 year-old

This little 4 year-old little Hudsonville boy is battling Wilms Tumor. This young boy lives with his four brothers’ ages 1, 7, 9 & 10 and his loving parents. As anyone can imagine, this has been extremely difficult for not only him but his parents and brothers also. This diagnosis has drastically changed the family dynamics and it is extremely difficult for his brothers to wrap their minds around what is happening. It is difficult for this family to ask for and accept help because they are usually the ones helping their community and friends.

Hudsonville Dad

Forty-One year-old male diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer in April of 2016. He lives in Hudsonville with his wife and their four children ages 2, 8, 13 year-old twins. Treatments have been unsuccessful thus far and he his cancer has been labeled as Stage 4. This family has faced several obstacles related to their home and health and due to this cancer progression the family has few funds to plan a Christmas for their children.

Holland Family

Mom is a 30 year-old female who was in a horse riding accident in September 2016 and was knocked unconscious. At the hospital they did a full body scan and that is when they discovered that she had liver and thyroid cancer. They try their best to take care of their kids the best that they can and they work hard to provide for them. They are loving, caring and always there for others. They are amazing parents and amazing people. They deserve everything and even through this hard situation they are staying true to believing God has a plan for them even when this seems so dark of a time.

Zeeland Family

Forty-two year-old male fighting Synovial Sarcoma. He lives in Zeeland with his wife and three children ages 14, 17 & 21. He has been unable to work since his diagnosis and due to appointments and treatments his wife usually isn’t able to work 40 hours a week which means they are having a hard time making ends meet. They are nearing the end of his treatment options and we would like to help make their last Christmas together has a family extra special.

Wayland Family

Thirty-seven-year-old male was recently diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma. This has spread to his esophagus, stomach, lungs, liver, and lymph nodes. He has been married to his wife for two years and they are expecting their first baby in March.

Nominate a Family for Heroes Holidays

* All applications will be reviewed and families selected by an independent third party committee. Eligible applicants will have completed treatment or received their wings within the last six (6) months. Fighters and survivors must be living in the home where the gifts will be delivered.
